The program began with a balloon release ceremony in honor of Floyd’s memory, followed by welcome remarks and an opening address from Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis. Organizers said the event also featured a community and justice forum moderated by media personality Dawn Paul, with discussions centered on civil rights, community healing, advocacy and ways to continue Floyd’s legacy through action.

Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of live entertainment, spoken word performances, food vendors and community fellowship. Performances included appearances by Abosstress, Dr. Bukky Rojugbokan and Jelando Johnson and Band.

For organizer Kay Davis, the event was about more than remembrance.

“This event was about more than remembering George Floyd, it was about continuing the conversations his life and tragic passing sparked across Houston, the nation and the world,” said Dannette Davis, founder of Kay Davis in the Community. “We are grateful to every speaker, performer, vendor, volunteer, sponsor, partner and community member who helped make this day possible. Their presence and support helped honor the memory and continue the movement.”

Organizers also recognized sponsors whose support helped make the event possible, including Courtney Johnson Rose and Teeba Rose, Gerald Womack of Womack Development & Investment Realtors, Sharon Murphy, Charles Davis of CBendy Davis Insurance Agency and Senator Borris Miles of Borris L. Miles Independent Insurance Agency.
